Beautiful Decay – The SS United States

Photographs of The SS United States, Philadelphia, December 2, 2017

Launched in 1952, The SS United States is the fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic in either direction. She was designed to be turned into a troopship if required by the Navy in times of war. Retired in 1969, she is docked on the Delaware River in Philadelphia where awaits being sold for scrap, or with a billion dollar investment, to be repurposed as a museum, hotel, or small city.
